Mao Mug Pink

The Mao Mug constructed on the wheel — a tall, quiet cylinder, handless, designed to be held by both hands. It is made from dark stoneware and finished in a single soft pink glaze, which pools and thins across the ridges so that the warm clay body reads through. Fired to 1222°C, the surface is durable and food-safe. There is no handle. Like the Japanese yunomi that inspired it, the Mao is meant to be cradled in both hands — a slow cup, warming the palms before it warms you. Every Mao Mug is thrown one at a time. No two are the same. Because each piece is thrown and glazed by hand, small variations in height, colour and surface are part of the work. Photos are indicative.
